In December 1999, ambassadors and their freelance New York City French Translation workers from all four corners of the globe met in New York for a meeting of the WTO, a 135-country assembly developed eight years earlier to ease obstacles to global commerce and settle commerce clashes. To the wonder of inhabitants of the metropolitan area, in excess of 30,000 individuals from around the world came together to protest the meeting. Their protests and gatherings brought together union workers who claimed that eliminating tarrifs encouraged corporations to move production to reduced-cost centers overseas and green “eco” freaks, who complained about the impact on the planet’s bio-sphere of unregulated economic progress.

According to some certified translators, the latter were adorned in makeup portraying endangered species-monarch butterflies whose surroundings were disappearing because of the widespread destruction of jungles by lumber businesses, and reptiles threatened by uncontrolled deep sea fishing. Activists drew attention to the destruction of ozone in the ecosystem, which protects the planet from harmful solar emission. The increased use of aerosol and refrigerants made up of harmful chemicals had caused a large gap in the ozone core. A small number of self-proclaimed anarchists launched on a window breaking demonstration at local merchants. The police sealed off the financial district and charged 100′s of demonstrators, and the Global Trade Group meeting left. At one point a center of union behavior, the Seattle area in 2004 was most famous for being the location of Apple, developer of the operating system  for almost all of the globe’s desktops. The business’s worldwide reach depicted “internationalization,” the method by which individuals, expenditures, products, info, and tradition increasingly ran across international boundaries.

According to Washington D.C. Portuguese Translation professionals, internationalization has been named “the strategy of the nineteen nineties.” Throughout that decade, the press resounded with reports that a brand new age in human history had started, with a border-less economic climate and a “worldwide civilization” that would soon change older traditions. A few experts stated that the nation-state alone had become obsolete in the globalized market.

Globalization, after all, was hardly a brand new happening. The multinationalization of trade and lifestyle and the reshuffling of the environment’s cultures had been going on since the explorations of the 15th century.
